Professional Bike Racing Coming to Taylor
Plein Air Classic Slated for July 4th Weekend
Taylor, MS – Oxford Cycling is pleased to announce the inaugural Plein Air Classic, a professional bike race scheduled for the 4th of July weekend. “This is incredibly exciting news for Oxford and Lafayette county cyclers and race fans” said race organizer Chris Mogridge. The series of races will take place over a two day period and Mogridge expects it to attract several hundred of the top professional riders from around the southeastern region.
The race, which coincides with the opening day of the Tour de France, offers prize money totaling $7,500. “We’re trying something different with this stop on the tour. Because it’s July 4th weekend, we’re going to make it very family-oriented” Mogridge added. On Friday night there will be a pre-race registration at the Plein Air Neighborhood in Taylor along with food from Emileigh’s Table.
Most of the racing will take place on Saturday with a series of races starting and ending at Plein Air. Spectators will also be able to enjoy the Taylor Farmer’s Market, other food vendors, music, and a moon bounce will be provided for kids. There will also be a kids race on Saturday. “We think it will be a huge picnic-like atmosphere with exciting, fast, furious racing going on all around us” said Plein Air developer Campbell McCool.
