Wyatt Waters to Hold Plein Air Painting Workshop in Taylor
Noted Mississippi artist Wyatt Waters will hold a two-day “plein air” painting workshop October 25th and 26th at the Plein Air neighborhood in Taylor. The workshop represents the first in the Plein Air Artist Series, which is comprised of teaching workshops, free concerts, lectures, and demonstrations.
The plein air style of painting originated with French painters in the 1800’s and literally means painting in the open air. Plein air painters attempt to capture their subjects in natural light by working in the outdoor realm.
“Given our name, it seemed only natural to have Wyatt Waters -- considered by many to be Mississippi’s finest plein air painter -- as our first instructor” said Campbell McCool – one of the developers of the Plein Air neighborhood.
“The workshop is limited to ten students. It will consist of three sessions and is designed for painters who consider themselves intermediate to experienced. The cost is $175 and Wyatt will work with the group as a whole as well as each student individually. The fee includes supper and lunch at Taylor Grocery. Additionally, one student from Lafayette County or Ole Miss will be given a scholarship to attend the workshop for free.
“It hearkens back to a day before the automobile dominated everything we’re doing.”
